The track, Khata Valley Trek or Kharta Valley trek will take you close to Mount Lobtse, Mount Makalu and Mount Everest (above 8000 meters), the best feature of a Tibet adventure! This trekking also called Kangshung valley trek in other names. You arrive at the heart of Tibetan Culture, the holy city with Lhasa. We will do a normal tour in the city before doing the Kharta valley trek. Until then you will also get enough time to acclimatize yourself to prepare for the trekking adventure. You will trek through the most beautiful landscapes changing one to another but the weather is also easy to change and rain at anytime.
To get into the higher altitude, you will be informed what to bring such as cloths and other stuffs with further contacting. As a common sense, please take thicker cloths suitable for the trekking above 4000 meters.

Upon arrival in Lhasa, you will be greeted by our English-speaking Tibetan tour guide and transferred to your hotel in downtown Lhasa. Your Tibet tour operator will meet you at the hotel to provide necessary instructions and briefing.

Today, visit the Potala Palace, built in the 7th century, to explore its grand chapels, audience halls, jeweled and golden burial chortens of past Dalai Lamas, Buddhist frescoes, and Thangkas.
In the afternoon, visit the Jokhang Temple, the holiest temple in Tibet, built during the reign of King Songtsen Gampo. Then, explore Barkhor Street, where you can shop for traditional Tibetan artifacts, antiques, musical instruments, Thangkas, and more.

Visit Norbulingka, the summer palace of the Dalai Lamas, famous for its beautiful gardens and residences.
In the afternoon, visit Sera Monastery, founded in 1419, and witness the famous Buddhist monk debating session in the monastery courtyard.

Depart Lhasa at 09:00 AM, driving across Kambala Pass (3975m), passing Yamdrok Yutso Lake, Karola Glacier, and Semila Pass. Stop for photos and sightseeing.
Visit Pelkor Monastery and the Gyantse Kumbum Stupa before continuing the drive through Tibetan villages to Shigatse.

In the morning, visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, the seat of successive Panchen Lamas and one of the four largest Gelugpa monasteries in Tibet.
Continue the drive to Sakya County and explore Sakya Monastery, the largest of the Sakya sect, notable for its unique architecture and rich history.

Drive through Gyawula Pass (5200m), offering panoramic views of towering Himalayan peaks, including Mt. Everest. Continue to Youpa Village, the starting point of the trek, and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Start trekking with gradual ascents, crossing steppes and rugged paths. Camp near the serene Shawu-tso Lake.

In the morning, drive to the border, complete immigration formalities, and obtain a Nepal visa on arrival (passport, vaccination certificate, visa fee, and hotel booking required).

The best time for the Kharta Valley Trek is late May to early October. During this period, the weather is relatively stable, with clear skies offering stunning views of Mount Everest and the surrounding Himalayan peaks. The summer months (June-August) bring lush landscapes, while September-October offer the best visibility.
The trek is considered challenging due to its high-altitude terrain, remote location, and long trekking days. Trekkers should have good physical fitness and prior trekking experience at high altitudes (above 4000m). Acclimatization is key, and training with endurance exercises, cardio, and hiking practice is highly recommended.

In Lhasa and Shigatse, you will stay in comfortable hotels with breakfast. During the trek, accommodation will be in tents or basic guesthouses in remote villages. Meals during the trek are prepared by the guide and team, consisting of Tibetan and simple Western dishes. You can also bring your own snacks for extra energy.
Yes, altitude sickness is a common concern, as the trek reaches elevations above 5000m. To prevent it:Spend at least 2 days acclimatizing in Lhasa before starting the trek. Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water. Ascend gradually and take rest days as needed. Carry medication like Diamox (consult your doctor first). Listen to your body and inform your guide if you feel unwell.
