Tibet Train Tours
Interested to book Tibet train tours? Discover the majestic Tibet during a picturesque train ride across the high Tibetan Plateau that spreads over 5,000 meters. Admire the herds of gracious gazelles and antelopes from the window of your train cabin. Let yourself be overwhelmed by the vastness of the Tibetan plains.
The train ride from Xining to Lhasa is truly an experience and well worth the roughly 22 hours the journey takes. Completed in 2006, the Qinghai-Tibet Railway is the world’s highest railway and an impressive feat of modern construction. Much of the track’s almost 2000 kilometres with roughly a quarter of the track, amazingly, laid atop permafrost. The route boasts stunning views, numerous bridges and high passes that are sure to take your breath away. Passing through remote areas, you will have the chance to see wild animals, high peaks. And panoramic views in areas otherwise quite inaccessible.
Beauty of the route aside, the train itself has pressurized cabins to ensure an easy ascent. Comfortable sleeper cars, viewing cars, and dining cars, make the long trip an easy one.
Note: Currently, domestic train travel from Xining, Qinghai Province to Lhasa is the best (and only) option for traveling overland to the Tibet Autonomous Region. Travel to Tibet is not yet widely available across the Tibetan Plateau but future plans include the construction of a southern line into the TAR from the tea growing area of Ya’an in Sichuan Province.
