Tour Reviews
Our magical journey traveling nomadic territories was unforgettable!. Norbu is an excellent guide!; He is friendly, gentle and very patient. We met beautiful natural places and camped with native people. If you want a cultural and spiritual experience out of the ordinary, this tour is highly recommendable!!. We are very happy, thanks a lot!! ^.^
During our visit in China in October / November 2016 we had included a 4-day trip to Tibet. We had selected Adventures in Tibet for the organisation of this tour. Norbu, the manger of this organisation is highly professional and his responsiveness was always excellent. When we realized that our travel permit for our visit had been lost in our Hotel in Xi’an, we contacted Norbu immediately. Norbu successfully managed with the hotel staff a new permit for us within a few days and thus made this impressive trip possible. The commitment and engagement of Norbu was outstanding. During our stay in Tibet we visited Samye Monastery, Drepung Monastery, Jokhang Temple, Ramoche Temple, Potala Palace and Drak Yerpa. The entire tour was perfectly organized and we were accompanied by a highly knowledgeable guide and very friendly driver. They were an excellent team and we appreciated their hospitality and their friendlyness. Even though we only had a few days in Tibet, the experience was overwhelming. Samye Monastery is very impressive and should be included in a trip to Lhasa if the culture and history of Tibet is of particular interest. Besides that we were very glad to visit Drak Yerpa, a really amazing site of small temples and caves located within a wonderful landscape. The other sites in Lhasa are also highly interesting and are within the standard itinerary for a visit to Lhasa. All in all, we were extremely delighted with the organization of our tour by Norbu and Adventures in Tibet. We hope to come back to Tibet one day and have more time to visit this beautiful country. If so, we will definitely organize the tour again with Norbu and his professional team.
I booked a private tour of the Amdo region in Qinghai with this company, visiting both Tibetan and Mongolian areas. The owner, Norbu, was very quick to reply to my emails and give me all the information I required, including making changes to the itinerary at my request. For the tour itself I was traveling solo with my guide and driver, Dhondup. I was a little nervous about traveling in an unfamiliar region as a solo traveler, but Dhondup was an amazing guide and driver – he was friendly, professional and a very honest and experienced guide and I felt very comfortable traveling with him for the week. One thing I really appreciated about Dhondup was that as a local he knows the area, culture and language in the Amdo region very well and he was very willing to explain things to me. He was also an expert at spotting good views for photographs and interesting things happening along the journey, and would always offer to pull over his car so we could take a look and get some pictures. We were lucky to see many local festivals and events along the way, such as Nomad families horse racing and doing archery, and monks walking on a 4 month pilgrimage between monasteries in the mountains, and Dhondup would happily drive the car into the fields and ask the people what they were doing and translate any questions I had. The people were always friendly (and often a bit surprised to see a Westerner!) and these experiences were really special. The tour itself involved a lot of driving as the region is large and we drove to a new place each day. The countryside is very varied, with grass lands, mountains, areas that looked like deserts, wooded areas, and nomad families living almost everywhere we drove. We visited a variety of monasteries and also saw different towns and holy areas. One highlight was staying with a Nomadic family, who welcomed me into their (80-year-old) yak hair tent, fed me homemade yak dumplings and yoghurt, and were very kind and friendly. (I should note that I slept in a separate place, their lovely winter room, decorated in a traditional Mongolian way and heated with a stove, rather than trying to squeeze into their small tent with them!) Overall I had a very memorable experience and I would recommend traveling with this company to Amdo region to travellers who want to see something different and ‘off the beaten track.’ I would recommend Adventures In Tibet for their efficient organisation, and Dhondup for his excellent driving and guiding, which made my trip so enjoyable and memorable.
Great tour and great travel agency! Always satisfied with your special arrangements! Hope to get there soon or after! 🙂
Yep~we had a great time with Dhondup! You guys planned an awesome trip lol. I didn’t have any idea about Tibetan culture before, but now I find it really great to know more about the amazing Tibetan culture and the people, and also the scenery in Qinghai. We really appreciate it. Cheers!
