What To Expect

Day 1: Arrive at Lhasa

  • Arrival: Upon your arrival in Lhasa by plane, our driver will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your accommodation in the city.
  • Acclimatization: Day 1 is dedicated to acclimatizing to the high altitude (3,658m). It’s important to rest, hydrate, and avoid overexerting yourself.

Day 2: Explore Lhasa City (3,658m)

  • Morning: Start your exploration of Lhasa with visits to some of Tibet’s most iconic sites, including the Jokhang Temple in Barkhor Square, the Potala Palace, and the Ramoche Monastery.
  • Afternoon: Continue your sightseeing, soaking in the atmosphere of Lhasa’s spiritual heart.

Day 3: Lhasa’s Surrounding Monasteries (3,658m)

  • Morning: Visit the historic Drepung Monastery, once home to 10,000 monks, and learn about its significance in Tibetan Buddhism. Explore the monastery’s dormitories, prayer halls, and the former home of the state oracle at Nechung Temple.
  • Afternoon: Visit Sera Monastery, famous for its vibrant monk debates. If you’re lucky, you might witness a lively debate session in the courtyard.
  • Evening: Return to Lhasa and relax after a full day of exploration.

Day 4: Pabonkha and Sera Monastery Day Hike

  • Morning: Visit the Pabonkha Monastery, a significant historical site dating back to the 7th century and the birthplace of Tibetan calligraphy.
  • Late Morning: Embark on a hike over the active Sky-burial site to the Tashi Choling Monastery, followed by a visit to the Takten Meditation Cave (4,200m). Enjoy a packed lunch and taste the blessed spring water at the cave.

Day 5: Day Trip to Ganden Monastery and Outer Kora

  • Morning: After breakfast, drive to Ganden Monastery, one of Tibet’s oldest and most respected Gelugpa monasteries. Founded in 1409 by Tsongkhapa, this monastery is a center for Tibetan Buddhism and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.
  • Afternoon: Walk the outer kora (pilgrimage route) around the monastery, an experience filled with spiritual significance. Afterward, return to Lhasa in the early evening.

Day 6: Namtso Lake Day Trip via Damshong (340 km)

  • Evening: Arrive back in Lhasa in the late evening.
