Day 1: Arrival in Lhasa

Arrive in Lhasa, where you’ll be greeted by our friendly tour guide. After a scenic drive, we’ll transfer you to your hotel in downtown Lhasa, where you’ll get settled in. Our agency staff will provide a brief introduction to the biking tour and go over the schedule.

Day 2: Exploring Lhasa by Bike

After breakfast, begin your biking adventure through Lhasa. The first stop is the iconic Potala Palace, the historical seat of the Dalai Lama, followed by a visit to Jokhang Temple, Tibet’s most sacred temple. These two landmarks are essential to understanding the spiritual and cultural heart of Lhasa.

Day 3: Biking to Drepung and Sera Monasteries

Day 4: Scenic Motorbiking Adventure to Gyantse (280km)

Today’s journey will take you out of the city and into the heart of Tibet’s breathtaking landscapes. Start your ride after breakfast, passing through Kambala Pass (3975m) with views of the stunning Yamdrok Lake. You’ll also cross the Karola Glacier and Semila Pass before reaching Gyantse. Gyantse is famous for Pelkhor Monastery and its impressive stupa, as well as the Gyantse Dzong fortress, which offers magnificent views over the town.

Day 5: Gyantse to Shigatse (90km)

Embark on a leisurely 90km ride to Shigatse, passing through picturesque agricultural fields. If you’re interested, take a detour to Kardoi village for a charming rural experience (round trip 120km). Stop along the way to explore the ancient Gyantse Dzong and Palcho Chode Monastery before reaching Shigatse. Visit the impressive Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, home to the Panchen Lama.

Day 6: Shigatse to Lhatse (150km)

This ride takes you through some of Tibet’s most remote and scenic roads, heading towards Lhatse via the Yulung La Pass (4950m). The roads are quieter, offering a peaceful atmosphere as you cycle through the Tibetan plateau. Upon arrival in Lhatse, enjoy a rest at the Shanghai Hotel, the best accommodation in the area.

Day 7: Lhatse to Rongphu Monastery (195km)

Today, drive from Lhatse to Rongphu Monastery (5150m), located below Mount Everest’s base camp. The journey takes you across Gyatsola Pass (5248m) and through the tiny town of Shegar before reaching the highest monastery in the world. Here, enjoy sweeping views of the majestic Everest range.

Day 8: Explore Everest Base Camp & Return to Lhatse (195km)

  • While prior motorbiking experience is recommended, the tour is designed for intermediate to experienced riders. The routes are scenic but can be challenging, especially in high-altitude areas with rough terrain. If you’re not confident in your biking skills, we suggest opting for a support vehicle for some stretches or consulting with your guide for advice.

  • This tour takes you to altitudes of over 5,000 meters (16,400 feet). To help prevent altitude sickness, the itinerary includes gradual acclimatization with time spent in Lhasa and lower-altitude areas before reaching higher elevations. We recommend staying hydrated, avoiding alcohol, and listening to your body. If you experience severe symptoms, please inform your guide immediately.

  • The tour offers high-quality motorbikes suitable for rugged terrain and long-distance travel. Typically, we provide BMW GS1200 or similar models, known for their reliability and comfort on both paved and unpaved roads. You will be briefed on the bike’s features and maintenance before the tour starts.

  • Yes, most meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and accommodations are included in the package. Accommodations range from comfortable 4-star hotels in Lhasa and Shigatse to simpler guesthouses at remote locations like Rongphu Monastery. Meals will be provided in local restaurants along the way, offering authentic Tibetan and Nepali cuisine.

  • You will need a valid passport, a Chinese visa for entry into Tibet, and a Tibet Travel Permit, which we will arrange for you. For the part of the tour that crosses into Nepal, you will need a Nepal visa, which can typically be obtained at the border. Our team will assist with all necessary documentation and permits.
