Day 1: Arrive in Lhasa

Upon arrival you will be met by our tour guide and transferred to the Hotel at the center of Tibetan old town in Lhasa.

Overnight: Gang-gyan hotel or similar 4 star hotel with breakfast

Day 2: Tour to Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street

In the morning, you will visit the Potala Palace which is built in 7th century and explore the grandest of this myriad chapels in the morning. After lunch, pay a visit to the holist temple in Tibet, the Johkang Temple, built during king Songtsen Gonpo’s reign by princess Wencheng and its famous Barkor Kora, where you can buy or appreciate traditional Tibetan artifacts, religious implements, antiques, books, Tibetan music instrument, Thangkas, and tradition Tibetan clothes etc.

Day 3: Tour to Drepung and Sera monasteries

After breakfast, we will to visit Drepung Monastery, which is situated at the foothill of a mountain and was founded by Jamyang Choeje in 1416. It was once the home of 10000 monks and Ganden Podrang in Drepung is famous for it was the administrative center during fifth Dalai Lama and later moved to Potala palace. After having lunch, continue to visit the Sera Monastery, which was founded in 1419 by Tsongkapa’s disciple Jamchen Choeje. The most attractive is its Buddhist monk’s debating held in the courtyard.

Day 4: Lhasa - Yamdrok Lake - Karola glacier - Gyantse - Shigatse. 361kms. APPX. 6 hours

You will travel from Lhasa to Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet’s holiest and most beautiful lakes. The 7200m Mt. Nojing Gangsang can be seen in the distance. After visiting the lake, you will drive to the mid-sized town of Gyantse via Karola glacier. Gyantse, elevation 3950m, is famous for its massive hilltop military fort and for the Pelkor Chode Monastery, which has the tallest Tibetan Buddhist stupa in Tibet.

Overnight: Gesar hotel or similar 4 star hotel with break fast

Day 5: Shigatse - Shegar (4050m) - Mt. Everest Base Camp (4150) 360km. APPX. 7hrs

Drive from Shigatse in the morning. In Shigatse, you will visit the famous Tashi Lhunpo Monastery where you can see the well-preserved largest statue of Jampa (future god) in the world. The monastery itself is abiding place for the successive Penchen Lamas. Then, we will drive to Rongpuk monastery which is close to Everest base camp E.B.C. passing the wild grassland and high mountains. You can have a glimpse of 4 mountains which are 8000m high or more, that is, Mt. Lhotse (8516m), Mt. Everes (8848m), Mt. Qowo O-ya (8201m) and Mt Magalu (8463m).

Overnight: Rongphu Guesthouse or Tent guesthouse

Day 6: Rongbuk - Gyirong Port APPX. 7hrs

We will drive through beautiful landscapes along the Himalayas to Gyirong town.

Overnight: A medium hotel

Day 7: Transit to Kathmandu via Kyirong Border

Our tour guide and driver will take you 24km from Gyirong town to the Rasog bridge (Chinese custom) and make all procedures to cross the border.

Our Nepal staff will receive you on other side of the bridge and drive you to Kathmandu. Nepal visa is processable at arrival. The tour is officially ends here

When journey across the Tibetan Plateau, you need a well-organized Tibet tour operator who not only knows what’s in front of you but also what used to be there, alone what’s lurking around the corner. One feel easily at home in Tibet with a knowledgeable buddy who is a bridge between you and locals and gives you a sense of old and new Tibet. With Norbu, you will be at home in Tibet.

I always wanted to see Tibet, but was not quite sure how to begin with. Then a good friend of mine recommended me “Adventures in Tibet”, a travel agency owned and operated by trustworthy and friendly local Tibetan people.
