Day 1: Visit Tibet Medicine Museum and Drive Qinghai Lake

We will visit the Tibetan Medicine Museum, an in depth introduction to Tibetan medicine and culture. Then drive to infamous lake Qinghai. We will relax and watch the sunset over this expansive lake and endless the grasslands. Overnight stay in a very comfortable Tibetan festival tent, camping or home-stay.

Day 2: Drive back to Xining, visit Kumbum on the way

Return to Xining via Kumbum Monastery. This monastery was constructed to commemorate the birthplace of Tsongkhapa, founder of the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. There, one and only thing which is valued to see is the stupa burial of Tsongkhapa. This evening we will be dining at a Tibetan owned family restaurant.

Day 3: Drive to Rebkong, visit Shachung Monastery

we will drive to Rebkong, which is the most popular and famous for producing some of the Tibetan worlds most beautiful and famous Thangka paintings. Here we will visit Rongwu Gonpa, the mother monastery of 35 others. After that we will visit upper and lower Sangi Shong monasteries for Thangka art exploration. Before getting to Rebkong, we will also visit Shachung monastery. Repkong is also famous for Tibetan festivals like Shamanism starting from first June and takes 7 days continuously.

Day 4: Drive to Labrang

Drive Labrang monastery in Sangchu County (Chi; Xiahe). Labrang seats at an attitude of 2950m above sea level and resides in Sanchu valley with surroundings of forestry mountains. Labrang monastery is considered to be the greatest one from preserving a completed collection of Buddhism doctrines and preferabley stand as a strong background now. We will explore the town on this availble evening and sleep in a family as home-stay.

Day 5: Drive to Taktsang Lhamo

Morning, drive to Taktsang Lhamo (Chi; Langmusi). This picturesque and remote mountain village is a great place to be immersed in Tibetan culture. We will have the opportunity to wander through the countryside while listening to the local Tibetan legends. An option for the days activity is to do a horse trek.

Day 6: Drive Sogwo grassland

We travel to Sogwo County. Here you will have the opportunity to spend time with local nomads. Enjoy butter tea and tsampa as you delve deep into the heart of Tibetan culture.

Day 7: Drive to Drakar County

We will drive to Drakar Tedzong. This is a very special place in Tibetan Buddhism. This modest monastery is set amidst spectacular scenery, and is not often visited by tourists. If we are lucky, we may spot blue sheep among nearby mountains.

Day 8: Drive to Maduo County

Driving day, departing Drakar Tedzong for Maduo. There will be ample opportunities for photographs of the stunning scenery.

Day 9: Visit Lake Kyarang and Ngorang

We will journey to the beautiful Kyaring and Ngoring Lakes to the source of the Yellow River.

Day 10: Drive to Yushu

We traverse two of Asia most important and famous rivers, the Yangtze and the Yellow. As we continue our journey towards Yushu we arrive at the Bayakala Pass (4800 m). This pass is the highest elevation that we will reach while driving on our trip. We visit the world’s largest Gyanak Mani Stone Pile.

Day 11: Visit in Yushu

We will go to Nampa Nangze (Princess Wenchang Temple). Nampa Nangze was constructed to honor the Chinese princess who married the Tibetan King Songsten Gampo. King Songsten Gampo is credited as the first person to bring Buddhism to Tibetans.

Thank you very much Adventures In Tibet! For this fantastic experience that gave us the opportunity to see how people really live in this part of the world, for witnessing monasteries and the monks lives with respect, for allowing us to alter the itinerary because the arrival of a new lama (6y old) for confirmation was about to happen, magical! Our (Qinghai tour) Amdo Tibet customised tour had everything and more. We won’t forget it.
